I do wonder what’s behind your comments, though. You keep saying you collect fountain pens, which would suggest you’re pro-fountain pen, but everything you say seems to be anti-fountain pens. It could certainly discourage someone with a new interest from buying any.

Hydrogencars, …
Hydrogencars, fountain pen collectors will tell you that you shouldn’t buy pens based on the notion that they’ll go up in value. Some do, some don’t. Some go up and down.
What’s rebuffing a pen got to do with anything? Scratches don’t affect performance.
I’m familiar with what Richard Binder and John Mottishaw do. I’ve read Richard Binder’s posts on FPN. My 50+ year old nibs are aligned, go figure.
Are you talking about the baby-bottom problem with some nibs? That’s a whole separate issue.
HYDROGENCARS says:
EeekMeep, fountain …
EeekMeep, fountain pen ink contains water, which is corrosive to steel. Look up ink formulas there are also lubricants like silicon in pelikan ink and cross (same ink). Your pens seem to defy the laws of physics or you are an idiot to think they do not wear.

CanltAready. Have you ever had a pen professional restored? Talk to a professional, believe what you want.If there is no wear why the harder materials in points? Waterman will rebuff and align your pen. Tell Waterman they are missinformed.Actually at this point I don’t care, my collection will grow in value.Check out Waterman’s resoration service, or Pelikan’s ask them about rounding and wear and realignment and buffing. What’s the point sorry I bothered.

That’s a beautiful pen.
I’ve got three Pelikan piston fillers myself. Red transparent M200, burgundy M250 which actually has a steel nib in it and an M75 GO! pen.

-There are people …
-There are people using Esterbrooks with unplated steel nibs that are not pitting. I have two such nibs myself.
-The tip of the nib is not meant to be gold, plated or otherwise. It’s made of a harder metal so it will wear slowly.
-People fly with fountain pens all the time.
-Bottled ink is readily available on the ‘net, still being manufactured, in fact.
-My 100-year-old waterman doesn’t drag and grab fibers, go figure.
-People do write novels with fountain pens.

Hydrogencars is …
Hydrogencars is terribly misinformed about fountain pens. He claims to collect them, yet everything he’s said here is false.
fountainpennetwork(dot)com would be a good website for him to check out.

Mmm, no. Steel nibs …
Mmm, no. Steel nibs will only pit if you have a corrosive agent on them; if you have a corrosive agent on them you’re an idiot.
I own more than half a dozen gold nibs, three plated, at least three solid, that date from the early 20th century. Not one of them is worn down, not one has increased its’ line width.
Don’t take your pen on a plane, don’t spend 2k on it. I’ve never heard of one being taken away as a “risk.”
You must have pretty ty pens to have them conk out after one book.

Steel nibs pit,gold …
Steel nibs pit, gold usually plated wears and increases the width of line Get a microscope, you will be surprised.Replace a nib on a vintage pen and note the performance difference.Pens on planes are security risks, Your 2k$ pen ends up in an envelope with nail clippers. Most Staple stores do not carry bottled ink. filter you ink,use ultrasonics to clean. Your pen’s nib will begin to drag and then grab fibers, line width increases. i know how to write, try writting a novel with a fountain pen.

50 ml of ink might …
50 ml of ink might not last a lifetime but close to it. The internet is always here if you want bottled ink also… Ive used fountain pens on airplanes with no leaking. How did you wear the nib out on a pen? If you use good safe ink and clean your pen once a month, your pen will last a few lifetimes or at least your lifetime if it is a steel nib. Gell ink pens require refills too often. With the money that you spend on refills a year, you can spend on 2-3 bottles of ink that will last a lifetime
EeekMeep says:
Are you in the U.S. …
Are you in the U.S.? Bottled ink is everywhere. There are probably a dozen well known websites where you can get every brand for a normal price. Office supply stores almost always carry Quink.
And if you’ve worn the nib out, it either wasn’t made correctly or you don’t know how to write. A gold nib will last a century, easily. A steel nib will last longer if you don’t bang it around.
HYDROGENCARS says:

Bottled ink is getting hard to find and is expensive.50ml of ink will not last a lifetime. I collect and use fountain pens .I’ve worn the nibs out on a few pens.Never take a fountain pen onto an airplane. Did you know that you can refill gel ink pens .Try it , talk about smooth writing.

Hi tallswede80 …
Hi tallswede80 thanks for your video. I bought myself a fountain pen for the first time in my life, an M600 Pelikan Souveran. I am pleased with how it writes, but I noticed a small problem when writing for a long time. The black grooves near the pen nib, used for unscrewing the nib, is causing pain and discomfort to my finger which rests on it. I now try to avoid touching the grooves but it feels awkward. Don’t you experience any kind of problem like that? Do your fingers touch the grooves?
Eldanen says:
Yeah. Disposable …
Yeah. Disposable pens might be cheaper if you only have to buy a couple, but most people have dozens they buy, lying around their house. And it gets hard to try to find one that actually works, and works well. Instead of dealing with the hassle, just get one good pen and keep an eye on it :>. Great!

I got the m215. I …
I got the m215. I have used piston fillers before, on my Lamy 2000, and it’s amazing. It has a gold plated steel nib, but it writes like a 23k nib. If you want a bottle of ink that is safe for checks, and you want a black, get Noodler’s black. It is bulletproof, meaning that it reacts with the paper, so the only way to get rid of the writing is by burning the paper, eating, or destroying the paper. It’s some really amazing stuff. Thanks for your awesome video review too!

I have only ever …
I have only ever used Cross ink, so I have no basis for comparison, but I’ve been satisfied with it. It runs off the page when in contact with water. so it’s dangerous to use the cross ink on checks because of check washing. As far as Pelikan is concerned, they are the only company that I considered when shopping for a fountain pen because of the souverain series using bottle ink and nothing else. That was key for me. I’m sure you will be happy with the pelikan.

I am a fountain pen …
I am a fountain pen collector, and *ALL* of my pens at the moment are cartridge converter fill. I haven’t used cartridges since the end of 7th grade (I’m in the 9th grade). So, what I use are the converters because I only use bottled ink. Most of my converter are Pelikan made. (they are the best quality). So my question is: What is cross ink like? I have a Cross pen and I love it death, but I mainly use inks by Noodlers and Diamine. Thanks in advance.
PS: I am getting a pelikan m200 today!!!!!
